MG has launched a new hybrid version of its mid-sized SUV the HS.

At $40,990 driveaway, MG is hoping the "all-new" hybrid will help it regain some of the territory it has lost to competitors since the launch of the car back in 2019.

Suddenly, that seems such a long time ago and the Chinese motoring offensive continues unabated, with new brands and models arriving seemingly every month.

The self-charging HS Hybrid+ joins the HS Super Hybrid which is in turn a plug-in hybrid version of the vehicle.

MG is throwing everything it has to make this car a success, with $1000 worth of free fuel up for grabs as well as gifts for just test driving the car.

Equipped with a 1.83 kWh high-voltage battery, the Hybrid+ features the most powerful hybrid battery in its class.

MG claims the exclusive water cooling system delivers 300 per cent improved heat management capability over traditional air-cooled systems, ensuring it is able to keep up with local families in the harsh Australian heat.  

The larger capacity ensures stronger electric assistance, greater responsiveness, and improved efficiency during urban and highway driving, all while enhancing long-term reliability and safety.

Under the bonnet, the Hybrid+ houses a class-leading 146kW celectric motor, together with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, with another 105kW and 230NM.

Combined output is 165kW and 340Nm, delivering one of the most powerful hybrids in its category.

Another key element of the MG HS Hybrid+ is a two-speed transmission for improved everyday usability, greater fuel economy and superior control logic over a wider range of real-world driving conditions.

MG says this blend of high torque and intelligent energy management translates to a dynamic yet efficient drive, ideal for Australian conditions.

Claimed fuel consumption is 5.2L/100km (NEDC).

This efficiency, combined with MG’s advanced regenerative braking and thermal management systems, reinforces MG’s commitment to sustainable mobility that fits real-world needs.

In practical terms the Hybrid+ offers 507 litres of boot space (with seats up) and an impressive 1484 litres with seats folded.

The offer of free fuel is also available to customers who purchase the all-new MG HS Super Hybrid, priced from $52,990.
