If at first you don't succeed, try again.

At least that seems to be BMW's approach to the i4 Gran Coupé which makes a return later this year.

They've made some changes though, with a revised model strategy and increased levels of standard specification.

The new strategy means there will be just the one variant instead of three and it will be the cheapest of the trio -- the i4 eDrive35.

Prices for the 2024 model before ranged from $87,800 for the i4 eDrive35 to $133,900 for the i4 M50.

This time around the new 'enhanced' version is priced at $88,900, which says BMW keeps it below the fuel-efficient vehicle Luxury Car Tax threshold of $91,387.

Since its introduction in early 2022 3340 examples have found homes in Australia, 2523 of them the eDrive35.

A key difference between the styling of the updated model and its predecessor is the inclusion of M Sport Package as standard equipment.

Key highlights include variant-specific front apron, side skirts, rear bumper and diffuser element to provide a stronger, sportier look.

The i4 eDrive35 is fitted with 18-inch M light alloy wheels as standard, with 19- and 20-inch wheel designs available as an option.

The M Sport Package complements other tweaks that mark the updated i4, including a new BMW kidney grille with a diamond-textured surface and striking new headlights featuring vertical structures for the daytime running lights and turn signal indicator functions.

Inside, the updated BMW i4 eDrive35 includes a new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker and seat heating for driver and front passenger.

An electric glass sunroof is now also included as standard.

The revised interior also features a new operating concept for the ventilation and climate control functions, delivering a premium touch.

The i4 delivers 210kW of power and 400Nm of torque, with the dash from 0-100km/h taking 6.0 seconds.

It's now fitted with silicon carbide semiconductor components (SiC inverter), reducing consumption by around 4.5 per cent on average.

This lifts driving range to 448km -- an increase of 18km.

Other technical details remain unchanged, with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology comprising a 66.4kWh (net) high-voltage battery and rear-mounted current-excited synchronous electric motor.

The base equipment offering for the BMW i4 eDrive35 has lifted considerably compared with its predecessor.

New elements include:

  • 18-inch M light alloys
  • Electric glass sunroof
  • Lumbar support for driver and front passenger
  • M high-gloss Shadowline with extended contents
  • M interior decor Fine-Brushed Aluminium
  • M Sport Package
  • Parking Assistant Plus
  • Seat heating for driver and front passenger
  • Tyre pressure monitoring
  • Tyre repair kit Plus
