With a larger battery, the latest version of Toyota's BZ4X EV promises improvements to battery, performance and driving range.

The lithium-ion battery pack fitted to the SUV is slightly larger at 74.7kWh, compared to 71.4 kWh previously.

The front-wheel drive version of the BZ4X now produces 165kW of power instead of 150kW, while the dual-motor, all-wheel drive has been boosted by 92kW and now has a combined output of 252kW.

The increase in output has also boosted performance, slashing the AWD's 0-100km/h time by 1.8 seconds to 5.1 seconds.

No word on all-important range.

Along with the increase in battery size, bZ4X engineers have also improved the battery thermal control and pre-conditioning to offer better charging performance in cold temperatures.

Exterior styling has been updated with a more unified iteration of Toyota’s Hammerhead front design language, giving the bZ4X a streamlined, sleek look.

Inside the cabin has been completely updated with a more modern and premium design, centred around a new 14.0-inch multimedia screen.

Both grades have also been revised with new gloss black fenders for a more premium feel.

Toyota Australia's Sean Hanley said the bZ4X upgrades would provide valuable enhancements for Toyota BEV customers.

“Launching our first battery-electric vehicle in 2024 was a historic moment for Toyota, and a very important step on our multi-pathway journey to decarbonisation,” he said.

“These upgrades to the bZ4X deliver valuable improvements for our customers, along with an increase in power which is sure to put a smile on the driver’s face.”

The new bZ4X is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of the year.
