More cuts for slow-selling Mach-E

Guess Australia's not quite as ready to make the switch to electric vehicles as Ford thought.

After reducing the price of its Mach-E Mustang SUV before deliveries had even started in December, it has slashed prices again.

It's also taken a knife to the price of the E-Transit delivery van.

Mache-E began life at a recommended entry price of $79,990, but the figure was later adjusted to $72,990.

Those who had already ordered one shared in the windfall.

Ford announced this week the price will drop a further $8000 to $64,990 -- a combined cut of $15,000 in six months.

Premium and GT models have been cut $7000 to $79,990 and $97,990 respectively.

These prices are before on-road costs.

Makes you wonder what it costs Ford to build the Mach-E?

The cost of the electric E-Transit van has also been reduced, from a recommended $104,990 to $89,990 -- a $15,000 drop.

At last count Ford had sold 223 Mach-Es so far this year, compared to more than 20,000 Ranger utilities.

There's no figures for the E-Transit.

Last time around Ford Australia explained the cuts came in the face of increasing competition in the premium EV market.

This time Ford Australia boss Andrew Birkic simply said: “These MLP price reductions offer even greater value to our customers and it makes these great vehicles an option for more people.”

Hmmm . . .

Ford also recently announced it is supporting customers with at-home infrastructure via a partnership with charging specialists EVIE.

The partnership provides a solution for both EVIE in-home chargers and public fast charging vouchers at EVIE branded public chargers.

“Being able to avoid the cost and inconvenience of the petrol station and just plug in while you’re at home is a big value-add for EV owners, so helping our customers to facilitate home charging while they’re at the Ford dealer makes perfect sense,” Birkic said.

Watch this space.
