AFRAID of losing your supercar to thieves? Or of being shot at by robbers? Or being blown off at the lights by a tattooed squirt in a Lamborghini?

Get a Rezvani Beast and your worries are over.

The all-new, all-American hypercar has just been released in the US and can be had with features such as electrified door handles, bullet-proof glass and, provided you get the jump on rival cars at the lights, you can blind them with a smokescreen.

The California-based car company is known for its bonkers products, which include luxuriously-appointed armoured cars for everyday use, but the Beast is its latest.

And if you want one, you’ll have to be quick: they’re building only 20 of them.

On that basis alone they should be very good investments, but they might be a lot of fun on the  road.

Said to be ‘born on the track and designed for the road,’ it claims world-class design, hi-tech materials, a swoopy body made of lightweight aerospace-grade carbon fibre and a mid-mounted 745kW 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 with air-to-water intercoolers. 

It drives through an eight-speed Tremec dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel and it can run to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds and do the quarter-mile sprint in 9.6 seconds.

The carbon-fibre body helps to keep vehicle weight to 1342kg and the car runs on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres,  275/30/20 in front and 355/25/21 on the rear wheels.

Entry is via twin butterfly-style doors, although Rezvani calls them dragon wings, while the targa top can be removed ‘providing an open-air experience and allowing driver and passenger access to the exhilarating exhaust sound.’ 

Quite a package. 

But you can also choose from some unusual accessories. 

There’s a $45,000 (AU$70,000) "007" package that includes gas masks, thermal night vision, electromagnetic pulse protection, electrified door handles, a pepper spray dispenser, magnetic deadbolts, strobe lights, sirens, run-flat tyres, first-aid and hypothermia kits, plus an intercom system.

Also available, but its price is not mentioned, is an explosive device detection system.

There's body armour, too, but it'll cost you an extra $55,000 (AU$85,000). 

For that you get unspecified amounts of armour for the exterior, as well as bullet-proof glass. 

How much?

Rezvani is asking US$485,000 (AU$750,000) for a Beast, but that's the base price.

Add the 007 and armour packs and you’re up for $585,000 (AU$903,000). 

Plus shipping, taxes and sundry charges.

And some of those options might not be to the liking of Australian authorities. 

Explaining some of the reasoning behind the wundermobile, company chief Ferris Rezvani said:

"Growing up at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and watching my father fly the F-4 Phantom, I was mesmerised by the power and beauty of military fighter jets and military vehicles.

"We’re all kids at heart and we grew up watching Knight Rider and James Bond, so we had to offer these same features in a real car."

That makes perfect sense.
