Great Wall Motors has added another Tank to its range, this time a seven-seater.

A competitor for the Toyota Prado, the GWM Tank 500 is a proper off-roader with 224mm of ground clearance, low range gearing and a rear diff lock.

Sharing a chassis with the Great Wall Cannon utility, it's 310mm longer with a 100mm longer wheelbase than the Tank 300 launched here last year.

Tank 500 is powered by a powerful 2.0-litre hybrid setup that produces 255kW of power and 648Nm of torque, with claimed fuel consumption of 8.5L/100km from an 80-litre tank.

That gives it a theoretical range of 940km.

Transmission is via a nine-speed auto, with a full-time four-wheel drive system.

The All-Terrain Control System features drive modes.

Braked towing capacity is 3000kg.

Tank 500 will be available available in two familiar Lux and Ultra grades, priced from $66,490 driveaway.

It will be available in four exterior colours, with metallic paint $595 extra.

Standard equipment includes:

  • Three-zone climate control to reach all passengers
  • Artificial leather trim or real nappa-appointed seating in the Ultra grade
  • Sunroof and side steps
  • 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support
  • Heated, ventilated and massaging front seats with memory and welcome function for the ultimate in comfort (Ultra grade)
  • Heated and ventilated second row outer seats and electric folding 3rd row (Ultra grade)
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Advanced multimedia system including a 14.6 Inch Colour Multitouch Screen, with wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto
  • 12-speaker premium Infinity audio system (Ultra grade)
  • Front and rear parking sensors and a 360 degree monitor
  • Auto parking and auto reversing assistance
